Lorence Kim joined Third Rock Ventures as a venture partner in 2020. He was previously the Chief Financial Officer of Moderna beginning in 2014, guiding $4.4 billion of capital raising to support the company’s platform efforts in mRNA vaccines and therapeutics as well as the discovery and development of a pipeline of 20+ candidates across infectious disease, oncology, rare disease and autoimmune disease. Prior to Moderna, he was co-head of the US biotechnology investment banking effort at Goldman Sachs, and was a member of the Healthcare Investment Banking Group for nearly fourteen years, having been named managing director in 2008.
Lorence previously served on the board of directors of Seres Therapeutics from 2014 to 2020.
Lorence earned an AB in Biochemical Sciences from Harvard, an MBA in Healthcare Management from the Wharton School and an MD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He and his wife, Sherry, have three children and live in New York City.
