At Rheos Medicines, we are pioneering in the emerging field of Immunometabolism to discover novel medicines to treat autoimmune diseases.

The Role

The Research Associate will develop, implement and execute appropriate assays required for the advancement of specific both high priority projects, as well as, the company’s product engine. As one of the key early hires for the company, s/he will work in close collaboration with the biology as well as other teams in the company to ensure that our pre-clinical programs and product engine are based on solid scientific foundations, accurate feasibility assessments, and grounded in realistic, corporate aligned goals.

Major Responsibilities

  • Development and implementation of a diverse set of cellular, immunology , biochemical and metabolic assaysused to support lead discovery
  • Design and execution of experiments used to validate and identify potential drug targets
  • Effective Communication of results and conclusions
  • Participation in planning and troubleshooting of experiments to support project goals

Requirements and Qualifications:


  • BS or MS in cell and/or Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or pharmacology

Required Experience:

  • A minimum of 1-2 years of hands on experience in cellular and molecular immunology techniques such as flow cytometry, immunoblotting, ELISA, QPCR (good to have)
  • In vitro experience in purification and culturing of immune cells such as lymphocytes
  • Experience with data logging in electronic notebooks as well as the use of visualization software and associated analysis of rich cellular datasets.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a team environment
  • Strong experimental background and a rigorous, analytical approach to problem solving

Preference will be given to candidates who additionally have:

  • Expertise in using Agilent Seahorse Bioflux analyzer
  • Experience in working with invivo mouse models
  • Experience in working with other immune cell types for instance macrophages and DCs
  • Target validation experience with ability to assay target biology with genetic perturbation techniques such as CRISPR-Cas9
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of hands-on drug development experience
  • History in the development of cellular assays used to drive early-stage programs towards candidate selection

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • In partnership with scientific leadership design, execute, troubleshoot, and interpret biological experiments in support of program objectives
  • Prepare protocols and SOPs for diverse assays
  • Maintain accurate documentation of experiments
  • Interact and communicate results and conclusions within the biology/pharmacology group and cross functional project teams
  • Review the scientific literature, attend user groups, to remain abreast of developments in relevant fields
  • Ability to function equally well in self-starter mode, as well as, a member of a matrixed team
