Reports To:               Chief Operating Officer

Location:                    Cambridge, MA

The Role:

Reporting to the COO, the Director of Business Development and Corporate Strategy will support and lead inbound and outbound business development initiatives, develop and execute on key strategies, lead the design and implementation of new strategic initiatives and operational projects, and help drive external corporate communications, including interactions with buy and sell-side investors.  This will be a high-profile role where you will gain first hand strategic and operating experience while helping to organize and build a premier biotechnology company. This high energy individual will wear many hats and will have the capacity to drive numerous complex projects forward simultaneously. This position will provide both strategic and operational excellence working closely with senior management, business partners, and potential investors. This person will play an instrumental role in supporting critical R&D programs, facilitating timely and impactful decisions, and establishing and contributing to the development of overall portfolio strategy, corporate and business development, as well as communications strategy at Rheos.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the refinement, articulation, and execution of Rheos’s business and science strategy
  • Support corporate partnering efforts (e.g., negotiation, coordination of due diligence activities, drafting research plans, financial analysis, term sheet drafting, etc.)
  • Lead and close transactions in support of R&D efforts (e.g., license/collaboration agreements)
  • Work with Business Development and R&D team to craft external partnering presentations
  • In partnership with the project leaders, guide program strategy, set program goals and lead team decision-making for Rheos’s discovery and early development programs
  • Act as Alliance Manager on with key research collaborators, suppliers and licensors
  • Ensure coordination of activities and deliverables across all functions reporting to the COO


Requirements and Qualifications:

  • MS/MBA (PhD a plus)
  • 8-10 years of relevant biotech or pharmaceutical industry experience (financial industry experience a plus)
  • At least 5-6 years in business development or corporate strategy function
  • Ability to influence across multiple functions, effectively work with different personalities and styles, and efficiently prioritize activities
  • Excellent communication skills; comfortable navigating complexity and ambiguity in a fast-paced environment
