Scientist, Lead Discovery (cell biology)

Cambridge, MA
March 11, 2020

The Role:

The Scientist, Lead Discovery, will develop, implement, and execute appropriate cellular-based assays in support of drug discovery projects. The ideal candidate will be required to utilize a diverse set of cellular immunology, biochemical, and metabolic techniques to support lead discovery and profile small molecule chemical matter.  They will be responsible for establishing and implementing project-based cellular target engagement assays and should have comprehensive knowledge of these techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to work in a matrixed organization while parallel processing several key activities simultaneously
  • Design and optimize cellular assays to evaluate small molecule inhibitors in support of drug discovery projects at Rheos
  • Generate and maintain relevant cell lines for compound profiling and screening
  • Determine potential mechanism(s) of action for CRISPR screening hits
  • Utilize molecular biology techniques to verify that catalytic activity is responsible for observed cellular phenotype
  • Demonstrate target engagement of prioritized compounds in a cellular environment
  • Generate SOP documents
  • Manage uploading of data to an internal database
  • Work cross-functionally by communicating experimental results and conclusions within the Lead Discovery and Biology groups

Requirements

  • Either a PhD degree in cell and/or molecular biology with 3 – 5 years of drug discovery experience or a BS/MS degree with 10 – 15 years of experience
  • Knowledge of the drug discovery process with the ability to plan and troubleshoot difficult problems in cellular biology
  • Experience in generating cellular reagents in support of cell-based activity assays
  • Experience with developing cell-based assays to enable lead optimization of small molecules
  • Can-do attitude and team player with strong organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in establishing cellular assays at contract research organizations (CROs)
