Senior Director, Business Development and Corporate Strategy

The Role:


The Senior Director of Business Development and Corporate Strategy will lead and support inbound and outbound business development initiatives, develop and execute on key corporate strategies, and lead the design and implementation of new strategic initiatives.  This individual will also be a key member of the team responsible for shaping external corporate communications, especially interactions with buy and sell-side investors in support of future financings.  This will be a high-profile role where you will gain firsthand strategic and operating experience while helping to organize and build a premier biotechnology company. This high energy individual will wear many hats and will have the opportunity to drive numerous complex projects forward simultaneously. This position will work closely with senior management, business partners, and potential investors.

 

Major Responsibilities:

 

  • Lead corporate partnering efforts (e.g., negotiation, coordination of due diligence activities, drafting research plans, financial analysis, term sheet drafting, etc.)
  • Drive and close transactions in support of strategic R&D and business needs (e.g., license/collaboration agreements)
  • Drive the integration of business development into overall strategic planning and scientific progress and direction of Rheos
  • Support development, refinement and articulation of Rheos’ investor facing messages
  • Key member of team responsible for design and execution of financing plan to support long term growth

 

Requirements Experience:

 

  • MS/MBA degree, advanced scientific degree (PhD) a plus
  • 10+ years of business development experience in the biotech and/or pharmaceutical industry. Financial industry experience a plus.
  • A track record of proven results, ideally in both emerging and well-established companies.
  • Lead experience, of successful business development deals spanning a broad range of transactions (i.e., in- and out-licensing, co-development, co-promotion, international rights).
  • Experience interfacing with clinical and R&D departments, and successfully integrating commercial factors into product development plans.
  • An active and extensive business development network in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries.

  • A verifiable reputation of integrity, resilience, fairness, collegiality and passion for supporting difficult, data-driven decisions
  • Good business instincts and fluency with business analytics and valuation methodologies
  • Superb oral and written communication, interpersonal, influence and negotiation skills
  • Skillful presenter of scientific and business topics to internal and external audiences
  • Proven ability to drive business decisions and manage multiple projects effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Energetic, result-driven, self-starter with a strong executive presence, collaborative mindset, and ability to think strategically and analytically
